Today we hiked in the Nijkerk/Putten/Voorthuizen area and when we were near Voorthuizen we saw a dear who was stuck between two bars of a fence.

She was half through the gate, but her hip was too wide to go through. She was sitting down, totally done. The bare skin was visible where the bars of fence touching her hips, she must have been fighting a long time to get out. No success. When we approached the dear, to see if we could help, she tried again to go through, no way of course.
We tried to widen the bars, but they were far too strong, at least 20 mm of steel. With nothing much we could do I called 112 (the Dutch 911) and explained the situation.

Moments later the fire brigade truck arrived with six (!) firemen on board. After checking on the deer they used a tool to bend the bars and seconds later the dear could be helped to get through.

With the help of a guy living on the other side of the road they brought the deer to the forest near where she got stuck.
Happy our phone call saved her!
